The air carrier Air Berlin is supposed to pay compensation to its passengers whenever one of its flights is three hours late.

Passenger rights in the event of flight delays are defined by Regulation 261 issued by the European Parliament since 2004. After all, thousands of travelers do not know their rights if their flight does not go as planned.

Delays that are due to situations that may be controlled by the carrier are compensable. Knowing that this company is located in an EU country, its connection is eligible for financial compensation irrespective of its point of departure.

Important: Certain circumstances causing the delay of an aircraft may prevent passengers from obtaining compensation:
- Weather factors (snow, heavy rain, tornado, ...),
- Strike controllers at the airport,
- Security issues related to political instability.

Flight cancellation

In case of flight failure, the passenger must quickly inquire about the causes leading to the cancellation of his trip. If the rotation was not ensured because of a bad weather or due to other exceptional peculiarities like the strike of the staff of the airport, ... it does not have therefore access to the lump sum compensation.

Otherwise, that is to say, by confirming that his operator is responsible for the failure of his trip, the passenger has the opportunity to receive a compensation of 250 euros minimum.

Overbooking

Overbooking by plane? What are the rules? Passengers may be out of the plane due to overselling airline tickets. The company promises them compensation if they agree to leave their place to other travelers by giving them a specific amount of money. However, the majority of them do not know that they can benefit from additional compensation in case their flight is overbooked.

Missed connection flight

Passengers may miss their correspondence when their departure flight takes off after an excessive delay, so they can miss important appointments (job interview, medical check-up, holiday accommodation, ...). In this case, the airline must comply with the regulation 261-2004 by offering its customers a compensation that can go up to 600 euros (in case of long-distance connection).
