Late Flight
Flight delayed due to aircraft failure or other airline-related issue including lack of pilots? Except in the event of force majeure, such as weather conditions, strike by air traffic controllers, problems with the runway, ... air carriers such as Swiftair must pay compensation up to 250 euros (minimum) benefit of each passenger who was stranded in the departure lounge for at least 180 minutes.
Flight cancellation
When a flight is postponed, the airline launches a race against the clock to reschedule another route for its passengers. After three hours of waiting at the airport, they become eligible for compensation, and this is what can scare air operators including Swiftair who will be expected to pay a heavy compensation for the benefit of their passengers.
The rights of air consumers are however protected by the official law of the EU parliament (CE 261-2004), but poorly defended by the passengers themselves. This gives carriers the chance to avoid paying compensation.
